Well, the winter has, at last, arrived with nighttime temperatures dropping to around -20C and sadly all too quickly the pollution that plagues Ulaanbaatar in the winter months is also back with a vengeance. I realize that not everyone can be as lucky like me and live in Gorkhi-Terelj National Park and enjoy the blue skies and sunshine that typify the Mongolian winter, but the next best thing is to pack up early on Friday and head out to Taskonir Lodge for the weekend and escape the city traffic and pollution, and before the daytime temperatures drop too low enjoy a walk or even a horse ride in the valleys around the Lodge. With most ger camps in Terelj now closed there are only a few visitors so you can pretty much have the place to yourself. Our two residential gears have electric heating and their own bathrooms and showers so even if its chilly outside it is warm and cozy inside.
